JOANNA PITURA
Thank you for visiting my blog.
I’m on a mission to help academics teach online.
My blog is a collection of my work and experiences as an academic teacher and a supervisor of MA-level students doing their degree in digital EFL (English as a Foreign Language) teaching.
------
WHY THIS BLOG?
This semester (February-June 2020) I teach, among others, two research writing-oriented courses: 1) MA Seminar and 1) Academic Writing.
As I have non-traditional students (extramural) in my group, at the beginning of the semester I thought flipped classroom would be a good idea to support their work.
I assumed that each week:
before class online the students would be made familiar with course content,
before class online they would apply this new knowledge in doing research and writing,
in class face-to-face they would interact with peers and me, give and receive individualised feedback,
after class online they would elaborate on their research and writing assignments, taking in-class feedback into consideration.
However, very quickly it turned out that face-to-face teaching was not possible.
In this blog I describe how I designed my flipped course and how I modified it when I had to teach online only.
